Couples Counselling

Couples Counselling

Every successful relationship involves some sort of compromise. Whether its learning what each person’s tastes and dislikes are when couples choose to live together, deciding upon parenting techniques and values, or choosing where to go on the next date, decision making is often best shared if couples are to have a successful thriving relationship. Of course, accommodating other people’s preferences, needs and choices in life should be factored into every healthy relationship, whether its as a couple, with a sibling or with your best friend.
When it comes to relationships however, especially those that usually involve a more intimate and intertwined network of feelings, family matters and best interests, it can be difficult finding the status quo. Finding the strengths in your relationships can be harder still when troubles and heartache arise, either through troubles in a relationship, or due to external factors, such as careers, bereavement or health issues. This is something all couples experience at one time or another and is nothing to be embarrassed about, or despair over. Often, couples can find compromises that suit the needs of all involved.
The fact that couples sometimes require the counselling of some person at least one time in their relationships journey is nothing new. After all, even committed married relationships recognise that they may experience marriage ‘in sickness and in health”, and they must love each other “for richer or for poorer” in the “good times and bad”! However determined couples are to stick to any promises made to each other, the fact remains, that although it is extremely rewarding, it is difficult. Things change and times change, feelings can change and challenges can test us.
Do you want to try and work through new challenges and difficulties in your relationship? Do you see room for improvement that will enhance your relationship and take it to a new level? Have you both recently suffered a hardship that you are finding hard to support each other through? If so, you can make use of couples counselling available from professional health worker, Gillian Lock.
Gillian Lock has worked in many areas of counselling and therapy services that can have a direct impact on your relationship and how couples react to each other, work together, and feel about their relationship. Her job will be in helping couples use their experiences as a way to strengthen the bond each partner has and resolve any issues raised as a result of any trauma, or personal difficulties.
By working together on any activities Gillian Lock has set for each couples counselling session, relationships and individuals can learn to really discern what truly matters, to know more about themselves as individuals, and learn more about each other. Communication plays a key role in any happy relationship, but even this can be difficult when emotions and time restraints get in the way. Couples counselling will help couples to get the most benefit from any time they spend communicating with each other and in each other’s company.
